EXPONENTS

An exponent tells how many of the base numbers get multiplied together.

The base number is the number being multiplied times itself.

exponents

16^4  the 16 is the base

 The 4 is the exponent

You read this as "16 to the 4th power."

This means you have four 16's multiplied.

 16 x 16 x 16 x 16 = 65,536

Squared means the exponent is "2" or you can say "number to the second power."

Cubed means the exponent is "3" of you can say "number to the third power."

If the exponent is zero (0), the product will equal 1
