Is the line parallel, perpendicular or both? Ordered pairs and slope formula

Saturday, December 17, 2016

How do you determine if a two lines are parallel, perpendicular or neither?

Parallel lines are lines that never cross and have equal slopes.
Perpendicular lines cross at a ninety-degree angle and their slopes are negative reciprocals.

If you have an ordered pairs you can use the slope formula in order to determine if the lines are parallel, perpendicular or neither.
The slope formula is,
y2-y1/x2-x1

After plugging the ordered pairs into the slope formula see if the slopes are equal, negative reciprocals, or neither.
