Subtracting Mixed Numbers- Regrouping Method
Monday, November 7, 2016
In this video you will learn to subtract mixed fractions by regrouping.
You regroup (or borrow) when the fraction of the mixed fraction is smaller than the fraction you are subtracting from.
For example 5 1/6 - 2 5/6
Notice how 1/6 is smaller than 5/6.
In this example you borrow from the whole number.
The 5 becomes a 4 and you add 6 + 1 = 7 and the new fraction becomes 7/6
The video works several examples including subtracting a whole number from a mixed fraction.
