warning coloration

The bright yellow color of this insect is telling you to stay away or I will harm you. Many insects use warning coloration to announce to everyone nearby that I may sting, bite, or attack if you get to close.

The term used to describe these warning colors is Aposematism which is the advertising by an animal to potential predators that it is not worth attacking or eating.
