An improper fraction contains a numerator greater than the denominator. A mixed fraction contains a whole number and a fraction.
Try this shortcut for converting an improper fraction into a mixed fraction. The video works several example problems in order to show you how to set up this shortcut.
The shortcut involves placing the denominator under a division sign, and dividing by the denominator.
The video solves the following problems.
Convert 7/2 to a mixed number.
Convert 9/4
Convert 15/7
Convert 48/9 to a mixed fraction
I find this shortcut helpful, and an alternative to the traditional method of changing an improper fraction to a mixed fraction. Try it yourself.
