How do you solve a word problem like this?

Drew gets paid $50 a five hour shift, how much will he get paid for a 7 hour shift?

This is an example of a direct variation problem. A direct variation has one variable that "varies directly" with the other. These type problems are solved using the formula y=kx. The "k" is called the constant of variation.
