Demonstration: Why the volume of a cone is 1/3 volume of a cylinder

Sunday, November 15, 2015

When you look at the formula for the volume of a cone, you will notice you take the formula for a cylinder and divide it by three. You can do this because the volume of a cone is exactly 1/3 the volume of an equal sized cylinder.

This video shows you both mathematically by calculated the volume of a cone and cylinder, but also by filling up three cones with water, and pouring them into the cylinder.

After watching the video you will see that it really does take three cones to fill up one cylinder with water.

MooMooMath uploads a new Math video everyday.
