Unit 2 6th Grade Math Videos

Sunday, December 24, 2017

The videos in this video align with the state of Georgia Math Standards.
Here are the standards that are provided on the state website.
"Understand ratio concepts and use ratio reasoning to solve problems.

MGSE6.RP.1 Understand the concept of a ratio and use ratio language to describe a ratio
relationship between two quantities.

MGSE6.RP.2 Understand the concept of a unit rate a/b associated with a ratio a:b with b ≠ 0 (b
not equal to zero), and use rate language in the context of a ratio relationship.

MGSE6.RP.3 Use ratio and rate reasoning to solve real-world and mathematical problems
utilizing strategies such as tables of equivalent ratios, tape diagrams (bar models), double
number line diagrams, and/or equations.

MGSE6.RP.3a Make tables of equivalent ratios relating quantities with whole number
measurements, find missing values in tables, and plot the pairs of values on the coordinate plane.
Use tables to compare ratios.

MGSE6.RP.3b Solve unit rate problems including those involving unit pricing and constant
speed.

MGSE6.RP.3c Find a percent of a quantity as a rate per 100 (e.g. 30% of a quantity means
30/100 times the quantity); given a percent, solve problems involving finding the whole given a
part and the part given the whole.

MGSE6.RP.3d Given a conversion factor, use ratio reasoning to convert measurement units
within one system of measurement and between two systems of measurements (customary and
metric); manipulate and transform units appropriately when multiplying or dividing quantities.
For example, given 1 in. = 2.54 cm, how many centimeters are in 6 inches?"

How to Read a Box and Whisker Plot

Friday, March 11, 2016
In this video you will learn to read a box and whisker plot.

In this video you will learn...

A Box and Whisker Plot takes data and divides it into four parts, and a five number summary.

The five number summary is,

  • The smallest value or the minimum,
  • The largest value or the maximum, and that is just listing your data from smallest to largest.
  • The median which is the number that falls in the very center of the data or middle number.
  • The lower quartile which is the middle number of the lower half, and the middle number of the top half.

The video goes through each quartile of the Box and Whisker plot and explains it's meaning.
Finally, the video looks at example an example plot and interprets the Box and Whisker Plot.

One Step Equations- The Basics

Wednesday, January 13, 2016

In these videos you will learn how to solve basic one step equations.

The key to one step equations ( also called linear equations) is isolating your variable by undoing what has been done to the variable.

When you isolate the variable whatever you to to one side of the equation, you must also perform on the other side of the equation.

For example  x -3 = 7
In order to isolate the x you will need to add 3 to both sides of the equation.

In the videos above I have solved one step equations that include division, multiplication, addition, subtraction, and even fractions.
