The tropical rainforest biome, which is located around the equator and characterized by high rainfall, consistently warm temperatures, and dense vegetation. These forests are rich in biodiversity, including a wide variety of insects, animals, and plants.
Tropical rainforests have multiple layers of trees that form a canopy, limiting sunlight to the forest floor. The soils are deep but nutrient-poor due to heavy leaching. However, a thin layer of decaying organic matter supports the lush vegetation.
Plants have adapted uniquely to compete for light and nutrients. Many, like orchids, are epiphytes—plants that grow on others without being parasitic. The forest is also home to diverse wildlife, including monkeys, frogs, eagles, anteaters, and numerous insect species like the bullet ant and assassin bug.
