Summary of the Savannah Biome.
The Savanna is a tropical grassland with scattered shrubs and isolated trees.
It lies near the Equator, typically on the edges of tropical rainforests.
The Savannah experiences warm temperatures year-round and has two distinct seasons:
A long dry season (winter) with around 4 inches of rain.
A wet season (summer) with up to 25 inches of rainfall.
A famous example is the Serengeti Plains in Tanzania.
Common animals include lions, zebras, elephants, and giraffes. Many animals migrate to find food.
Notable plants include grasses, the acacia tree, and the baobab tree.
Plants adapt to drought with features like long roots, thick bark, water-storing trunks, and seasonal leaf shedding.
Fires are natural and beneficial, clearing old growth to encourage new. Most plants survive due to deep root systems.
