STEPS FOR SOLVING A ONE STEP EQUATION
1) Divide the problem into two sections by drawing a vertical line through the equal
sign.
2) Identify the operation in the given problem.
3) Decide what the inverse Operation is and show the inverse on both sides of the equation (both sides of the equalssign/the vertical line).
In this problem the operation is addition so the opposite operation is subtraction.
4) The inverse operations will undo one another and will be eliminated.
5) Solve the value of the other side of the equals sign to get the answer. BOX IT!
6) Check your answer by using substitution; replace the variable in the original equation and solve to make sure your answer matches the answer on the other side of the equals sign.
