Step 1. List the multiples of each number.
2 4 6 8 10 12 .......
4 8 12 16 20 .....
Step 2. Now see which are common to both numbers.
In this example it is, 4,8,12
The smallest of these common multiples would be your least common multiple.
In this example it would be 4
